CHEERS TO…The people in the comments

Every single person who jumped into the comments with:

“Fantastic. Great move. Well done Angus.”

…under posts announcing Angus Taylor as the new Liberal leader last week.

If you’re not online enough to get it: this is an internet callback to a 2019 Facebook mishap when Taylor accidentally congratulated himself - from his own account - under his own post.

The comment was deleted almost immediately, but screenshots live forever, and so does Australian political humour.

The phrase has spent the better part of seven years popping up whenever he appears online, and watching it resurface this week at scale had me cackling.

There’s something deeply satisfying about a joke so niche that only the politically online understand it, yet somehow the entire internet decides to participate anyway.

Smart people being funny together? Peak Australian democracy.

Thoughts and prayers for whichever poor soul is moderating his socials this week🙏

PS. Proof that stupidity doesn’t discriminate: our very own federal member pulled a near identical social media gaffe during the last election (yes, I still have the screenshot). I won’t repost it though - he’s blocked me, which takes a bit of the fun out of it, doesn't it 😉
